3oubour: Singing Rivers & Mountains

A relaxed and open workshop exploring voices, rivers, mountains, and the ways they flow in and out of each other. Tickets available here.

Join us for a relaxed and open workshop exploring voices, rivers, mountains, and the ways they flow in and out of each other. Using improvisation and our imaginations, we will explore how our voices can carry and share stories of different landscapes, bodies of water, and ways of relating across histories and seas. No musical experience needed, just bring yourself and the name of your favourite river and/or mountain.

Fatima Lahham is a London-based recorder player, vocalist and improviser. Her heritage embraces Jabal Qasiyun in Damascus and the Cherwell river in Oxford amongst other rivers and mountains. Fatima's work brings people together through listening, voice and improvisation. She is currently a Hallsworth Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, leading a community music project with Muslim communities in London and Greater Manchester. Her debut album bulbul (2022) and her book Improvising Otherwise (2025) are both inspired by her love of sound and story.

This workshop is presented as part of Sawt Al Layla, a night of sound at the 3oubour exhibition featuring a late exhibition opening as well as musical performances.

The 3oubour: A River Between Mountains exhibition is at Crafts Council Gallery from 13 - 22 November. The project is co-produced by The Arab British Centre, A.MAL Projects and Takafes, with the support of British Council in Morocco, Henry Moore Foundation, Artsadmin, and Freelands Foundation. In partnership with Crafts Council. Design by Salt & Sister Studio.

The Songs We Sing: A Participatory Workshop

In this workshop, we invite everyone to join voices together and listen to each other's stories, travels, and anchor points. Book your ticket here!

Songs can be a powerful way to stay connected: to our lands, our families, our local areas, and each other.

In this workshop, we invite everyone to join voices together and listen to each other's stories, travels, and anchor points. We will create a map of each other’s songs and sounds, and create our own song together.

Feel free to attend with any songs you are connected to, any recordings of places that you want to share with us, or just bring yourself. No music or singing experience needed!

Facilitators: Fatima Lahham & Jess Hui
